Town Hall: new purpose and restoration

We are affording the Town Hall a meaningful place in the city once more. The Town Hall is closed for repairs and renovations. By 2029, it will be an open house where Leuven residents, visitors and tourists will be welcome. A place where you can discover stories about the city and jointly reflect on the city’s future.

How are we restoring the Town Hall?

Heritage is being preserved. We are taking great care of the valuable elements and ensuring that history remains visible.

How do we prepare the Town Hall for the future?

We are focusing on accessibility, safety and sustainability. There will be a new building, which respects the existing heritage.
The ground floor provides access to the new counter of Visit Leuven, the city’s tourist office.

Starting in 2029, we will open the doors of the Town Hall to Leuven residents and visitors. It will be a place where you can discover the city’s history and future.
Six centuries

History of the construction

The Town Hall has constantly changed. It is a complex structure, a tangle of buildings. Over the centuries, parts have been added, demolished and later rebuilt.
