Future use of the Town Hall
Starting in 2029, the renovated City Hall will open its doors to Leuven residents and visitors. It will be a place where you can discover the city, its history and its future. You will be able to visit and experience Town Hall in a variety of ways.
Visit the historic halls, salons, chambers and attics
A guided tour leads you through the entire town hall, its salons, halls, and even up to the attics. There, we tell stories about the city and Town Hall, from the past to the present, using installations, objects, and multimedia from various collections.
A place for ceremonies and politics
The Town Hall remains the political heart of the city, hosting its monthly city council meetings. It will also remain an important place official receptions, weddings and anniversaries.
Collaborating, debating and experimenting
It's once again a democratic home in the heart of the city: a place where Leuven residents and experts work on the city of tomorrow. It will be a place to create the city together.
Visit Leuven: the starting point for your visit to the Town Hall and the city
From the Grote Markt, you enter the new reception area. This is the starting point for your visit to the town hall and the city. At the Visit Leuven reception desk, staff will be happy to help you with tips and information.
On the first floor you can discover more of Leuven's assets, and on the second floor you have a unique view of the Grote Markt and the town hall itself, from the balcony.
Stroll through the Vrijthof
The Vrijthof will become a green haven. A green, quiet courtyard with a path that connects the Town Hall with Naamsestraat and the café.
Talk in the café
A small café will open on the corner of Naamsestraat. Enjoy a drink there after your visit or during a break in the city.
