Student with student visa who is studying at another college or university: how to register?
This is your situation:
- You are not an EU, EEA or Swiss national.
- You have a student visa (type D).
- You are not studying at KU Leuven, UCLL or Luca (Lemmens), but at another Belgian college or university.

Step 1: Gather the documents
National passport
- Biodata page
- Page containing the visa (type D)
- Page containing the entry stamp (if it does not appear on the visa page)
- Is your place of birth not mentioned in your passport? Then add another official document which proves your place of birth (e.g. birth certificate).
- Proof of registration at your college or university
An admission letter is not proof of registration.
Additional document
If your student visa (type D) contains one of the visa codes below, you must provide an additional document:
- Visa code B7 or B35: admission letter
- Visa code B6: proof of your financial means
- Visa code B43: proof of health insurance, valid at least 3 months and covering risks in Belgium
Rental contract
If available.
1 passport-size photo
- The photo is no more than 6 months old.
- Pay attention to the requirements (Dutch only).
- There is a photo booth in the city office.
Pay attention: take your photo before taking your appointment ticket at the dispenser.
Step 2: Register yourself
You can do so online or at the city office.
Register online
- Attach the documents in colour.
- Preferably attach the documents in pdf (not applicable for photos).
- Make a single file of documents consisting of several pages or belonging together.
E.g. health insurance contract. - A document may not exceed 10 MB in size.
Register at the city office
Come to the city office with your documents, by appointment. You will immediately receive proof of your registration in the city register (an ‘annex 15’).

We process your application.
Step 4: Collect proof of registration
We will invite you by email to come to the city office to collect the proof of your registration in the city register (an ‘annex 15’). You make an appointment.

Step 5: We check your address
A local police officer will visit to verify your address. Ensure that your name appears on the doorbell and letter box.
Step 6: Apply for residence card
You are required to make an appointment.

You do not need to bring a passport-size photo. We will take a photo during your appointment.
