New purpose for the Town Hall

Starting in 2029, we will open the doors of the Town Hall to Leuven residents and visitors. It will be a place where you can discover the city’s history and future.

After the renovation work

In 2029, you will be able to visit and experience the Town Hall in various ways:

  • You can visit the historic rooms, salons, offices and attic
There, we tell stories about the city and the Town Hall, about the past, the present and the future. We will do this using installations, objects and multimedia from various collections. A route will lead you through the whole Town Hall, the salons, the rooms and the attic.
  • It is a place for ceremonies and politics
Such as weddings, anniversaries, city council meetings and official receptions.
  • You can work, collaborate, debate and experiment there
Once again it will be a democratic house in the city centre: a place where Leuven residents and experts work on the city of tomorrow. A place where we will make the city together.
  • The Antechamber is the starting point for your visit to the Town Hall and the city
In the reception area, employees will guide you and provide you with some initial information. The counter of Visit Leuven, the tourist office, will also be located here. On the second floor there is a city balcony where you have a view of the Grote Markt and the Town Hall.
  • You can walk through the Vrijthof
A green, quiet courtyard with a new path that connects the Town Hall with Naamsestraat.
