Who can vote on Sunday 13 October 2024?

There are local and provincial elections on Sunday 13 October 2024. You can vote from the age of 18, but it is not compulsory.

Non-Belgians can register to vote in local elections in Leuven until 31 July 2024.

Who can vote in Leuven?

Belgians

May vote for local and provincial elections on Sunday, 13 October 2024.

You meet these conditions on 1 August 2024:

  • You are Belgian.
  • You are registered in the population register of Leuven.
  • You are 18 years or older.
  • You have civil and political rights (you are not excluded or suspended).

Other EU citizens

May vote for local elections after registration.

You meet these conditions:

  • You are registered in the population register of Leuven on 1 August 2024.
  • You are 18 years or older on the day of the elections.
  • You have civil and political rights (you are not excluded or suspended).

Non-EU citizens

May vote for local elections after registration.

You meet these conditions:

  • On 31 July 2024, you have been officially living in Belgium for at least 5 years continuously.
  • You are registered in the population register of Leuven on 1 August 2024.
  • You are 18 years or older on the day of the elections.
  • You have civil and political rights (you are not excluded or suspended).

Register to vote for non-Belgians

Are you a resident of Leuven but you do not have a Belgian nationality? Then you can register to vote in local elections in Leuven until 31 July 2024.
