Research and trial restorations in the Town Hall
To prepare for the major works, we carry out research, test cleanings and test restorations.
Preparatory investigations
Additional research is currently underway at the town hall in preparation for the restoration work.
- Using a scalpel, the researchers expose the various finishing layers in the different halls and rooms.
- This gives us a good view of which layers of paint, plaster and finishing layers are present.
Trial cleanings and trial restorations
We also conduct trial cleanings and trial restorations. These tests determine which cleaning or restoration method yields the best results. The findings are included in a dossier for appointing restorers.
- For example, we carry out 3 cleaning tests.
- We test different colours on a small part of the ceiling or wall.
- This way we can test the colours and techniques before we apply them on a large scale.
