To travel to non-European countries, you usually need an international passport.

  • Aged 18 or over: You can only apply for a passport yourself.
  • Under 18: You must attend in person with one of your parents.

What do you need to bring?

  • Identity card
  • Your previous passport or a police report confirming its theft
  • You do not need to bring a passport photo. We will take one for you free of charge during your appointment.
    For children under the age of 3, please do bring one passport photo. The photo must be no more than 6 months old and must meet the requirements.

Need a passport fast? (urgent procedure)

Urgent procedure: ready in 2 working days

  • Come to the city office before 2 pm (no appointment needed).
  • Collect your passport in the city office 2 working days later.

Very urgent procedure: ready in 4.5 hours

How much does it cost?

You can pay in cash or by debit card.

Standard procedure (delivery after 2 weeks)

  • Under 18: € 45
  • 18 and older: € 90

Urgent procedure (delivery after 2 days)

  • Under 18: € 210
  • 18 and older: € 255

Very urgent procedure (delivery after 4.5 hours)

  • Under 18: € 270
  • 18 and older: € 330

When can you collect your passport?

  1. Your new passport will be ready no later than 2 weeks after your application.
  2. You will be notified when the passport is ready.
  3. Make an appointment to collect your passport.

Found your lost passport?

Have you reported your passport as lost or stolen? You can no longer use or reactivate it. Have the passport destroyed at the city office. If necessary, apply for a new passport.

Need passport in an emergency?

Do you need to travel for urgent humanitarian reasons? You can apply for a temporary passport from the Federal Public Service Foreign Affairs. This is only possible in the following situations:

  • A sudden death or unexpected hospital admission abroad
  • Of a first-degree family member:
    • Partner (married, legally cohabiting or with a cohabitation agreement)
    • Parents (including step-parents and adoptive parents) and parents-in-law
    • Children (including stepchildren and adopted children) and children-in-law
  • At the weekend or on a public holiday in Belgium
    For a death or hospital admission on a weekday, apply for a passport using the urgent procedure instead. Your passport will be ready after 4.5 hours.

Can you extend a passport?

No. A passport cannot be renewed. If your passport expires, you can apply for a new one.
