Preparatory works for the restoration of the town hall: sculpture attic

The sculpture attic houses original sculptures and casts from the town hall facade. In the future, you will be able to visit the attic. But first, we need to restore the attic space. We are currently preparing for that.

What work do we carry out?

  • We are emptying the attic. This involves a total of 880 works in plaster and limestone.
  • We are cataloguing and cleaning the sculptures. We are treating them with special substances to strengthen the stone.
  • We are packing the sculptures and preparing them for transport.
  • We will remove the sculptures from the attic.
  • We will move them to an external depot.

At the opening, we will replace most of the sculptures so that visitors can experience the sculpture loft. The space will then be open to the pulic for the first time.

These works are being carried out under the supervision of M Leuven, the manager of the town hall's art heritage.
