Border student: how to report yourself?

This is your situation:

  • You are an EU, EEA or Swiss national.
  • You reside in the Netherlands, France, Germany or Luxembourg.
  • You wish to report yourself as a border student.

What do you have to do?

You come to the City Office, by appointment. You immediately receive an ‘annex 33’ as residence document.

If you are not in Belgium, you can only make an appointment by phone.

What do you need to bring?

  • National identity card or passport
  • Previous 'annex 33', if any
  • Proof of enrolment at the college or university
    An admission letter is not proof of registration.
  • If you do not have the nationality of the neighbouring country where you reside:
    Official proof that you reside in the Netherlands, France, Germany or Luxembourg, e.g. a valid residence card or a certificate of residence
  • 1 passport-size photo
    • The photo is no more than 6 months old.
    • Pay attention to the requirements (Dutch only).
    • There is a photo booth in the city office.
      Pay attention: take your photo before taking your appointment ticket at the dispenser.
  • Your address in the neighbouring country

Valid for how long?

An 'annex 33' is valid for 1 academic year.

Extension of stay

Are you staying in Leuven for more than 1 academic year? Then report yourself with the city every academic year.
