  • You are coming to Belgium for your mobility or exchange programme, e.g. an Erasmus exchange.

How do you report yourself as a mobility student?

Step 1: Gather the documents

Digitally or on paper?

You provide the documents all in hard copy or all digitally.

  • For digital documents: first go to step 2.
  • For paper documents: go to step 3.

Which documents?

  • National identity card or passport
You may not provide it digitally. Bring the original with you to your appointment.
  • Proof of your mobility programme
E.g. your admission letter + your proof of enrolment, a ‘certificate of stay’, an Erasmus agreement …
Pay attention: only an admission letter is insufficient. This document does not prove that you effectively registered yourself with your educational institution after arrival in Belgium.
  • 1 passport photo
    • The photo is no more than 6 months old.
    • Pay attention to the requirements.
    • Do you not have a digital passport photo? Bring a paper one with you to your appointment

Step 2: Submit digital documents

  • Do you have all the documents digitally?
Provide them to us in advance. That way, we can go through them together during your appointment.
  • In some cases you must bring the original document with you to your appointment
    They are listed above.

This is not yet an application for your stay
We don’t do anything with these documents as yet. We keep them for a maximum of 6 weeks, after which they are deleted. We will only go through the documents during your appointment at the city office.

Make an appointment latest 3 months after your arrival in Belgium.
