Buy a parking permit for residents
Do you live in a zone where you have to pay a parking fee or display a parking disk? Then request a parking permit for residents (residential parking permit) from the city. With a parking permit you can park in these zones without needing a parking disk.
Who can apply for a parking permit?
Leuven citizens
You officially live in Leuven in one of these zones:
- Blue zone (parking with parking disc)
- Paid zone
- Car-free zone
- Pedestrian area
Who just has moved to Leuven
Has your address not yet been updated on your ID card? As soon as you have notified the authorities of your change of address, you can purchase a parking permit for residents valid for up to 3 months.
For which type of vehicle can you buy a parking permit?
Vehicle type
The vehicle is registered as:
- Passenger car
One of the following types:- Saloon
- Coupé
- Convertible
- Minibus
- Estate car
- Vehicle with tailgate
- Multi-purpose vehicle
- Dual-purpose car
- Light truck
- Length: max. 4.90 m
- Height: max. 1.90 m
- Four-wheeled moped, light quadricycle or heavy quadricycle
The maximum speed is 90 km per hour.
Number plate
- You have a Belgian number plate.
- Do you have a foreign number plate? In that case, you can purchase a pass once for a maximum of 3 months. In the meantime, you can register your car.
Driver or co-driver
- Is it your vehicle?
The vehicle is registered in your name or in the name of someone at the same address. - Is the vehicle someone else’s?
- You are the main driver or co-driver on the vehicle’s insurance.
- Or you are the regular driver of the leased or company car.
How many parking permits can you buy per address?
You can buy a maximum of 2 parking permits per address.

Your parking permit is valid after a maximum of 5 working days and after payment.

Make an appointment in the city office. Your parking permit is valid immediately.

What do you bring?
- Identity card
- Proof of vehicle registration (part 1, front and back)
- Just moved? Proof of provisional registration
- For light trucks? Proof showing the dimensions of the vehicle
- For leased vehicles? Proof of lease from recognized leasing company
- For company cars? Company car certificate (you can request the document at the City council offices)
