About the Universidad Pollitécnica de Madrid
UPM has extensive experience with participating in EU programs. With regards to the 7th Framework Programme, the University has taken part in 288 European R&D projects, representing more than €83 million of funding received from the European Commission. UPM has been recognized as the Spanish University with the highest number of FP projects approved. In Horizon 2020, UPM has received around €54 million of funding, with 266 projects approved. UPM also participates in the LIFE program, taking part in 9 Life+ projects, one of which is coordinated by UPM researchers.

EIT Climate-KIC’s Healthy, Clean Cities (HCC) Deep Demonstration
A program that deploys a systems innovation model using a balanced portfolio of interventions to catalyse fast decarbonisation. One of Madrid’s focus areas is green infrastructure and the health benefits of urban greening, which is linked with ongoing city projects such as Metropolitan Forest, Barrios Productores, and renaturing the River Manzanares.

EIT Climate-KIC’s ACT ON NBS (Adaptive Cities through Nature-Based Solutions)
A project designed to increase NBS uptake through establishing a growing and sustainable innovation ecosystem. At this moment 16 cities are involved working around four key interlocking activities: capacity building; reviewing and assessing tools for NBS uptake; connecting, accelerating, and scaling NBS start-up businesses, and promoting collective Intelligence and co-creation for NBS through new channels of awareness and multiactor engagement.

CLEVER CITIES (Horizon 2020)
A research project aimed at developing a replicable evaluation framework for urban NBS at a Madrid pilot site. The objective is for the framework to serve as the basis for monitoring and maintaining NBS in the long term, and to be used by policymakers to pursue the necessary conditions for NBS to thrive.
