Parking for bicycles
It’s best to park your bicycle in a covered bicycle parking area. There you can park easily and safely, without causing any obstruction.
Only need to park for a short time? Then you can use a bicycle rack, bicycle stand or marked bicycle parking space.
Please note: in some places, parking is not allowed.

Bicycle parking facilities
There are several large bicycle parking areas in the city centre:
- Kinepolis bicycle parking
- Martelarenplein bicycle parking
- Rector de Somerplein bicycle parking
- Leuven train station bicycle parking
- Train station bicycle parking on the Kessel-Lo side
- Tweebronnen bicycle parking
- Vaartkom bicycle parking
Bicycle racks
- Many streets have bicycle racks where you can park and secure your bike for a short period of time.
- You may leave your bike at a rack for a maximum of 3 weeks. After that, the police will remove your bike.
Parking spaces for bicycles
- Some streets have marked parking spaces for bicycles painted on the ground. You can park your bike there for a short period of time.
- You may leave your bicycle in a parking space for a maximum of 3 weeks. After that, the police will remove your bicycle.

Where there is always a parking ban
In some places, you are not allowed to stop or park with a bicycle, scooter or kick scooter. You can recognise these zones by a special traffic sign. The no parking signs are located where the zone begins and apply to the entire zone.
Areas where you are not allowed to stop or park:
- Grote Markt area:
- Rector De Somerplein and junction with Bondgenotenlaan
- Grote Markt
- Margarethaplein
- Mathieu de Layensplein
- Mechelsestraat, between Grote Markt and Mathieu de Layensplein
- Brusselstraat, between Grote Markt and Franz Tielemanslaan
- Eikstraat
- Tiensestraat, between Rector De Somerplein and Savoyestraat
- Savoyestraat
- Vesaliussite
- Station area:
- Martelarenplein and surroundings (e.g. beginning of Bondgenotenlaan, beginning of Maria-Theresiastraat, beginning of Diestsestraat)
- Martelarenlaan near and on the Benedenplein and surrounding area (beginning of Ernest Solvaystraat, beginning of the bicycle bridge connection)
AttentionYou may not park here even for a short stop, for example to quickly run an errand.
Where a temporary parking ban applies
During events such as Hapje-Tapje, it is prohibited to park your bicycle, scooter, or step in or around the event area. Traffic signs will indicate this.
Where this is a nuisance or dangerous
These are places where your bicycle, scooter or step obstructs access or creates a dangerous traffic situation.
When will the police take away your bicycle, scooter or step?
- If you park where it is always prohibited.
- If you park where it is temporarily prohibited, e.g. due to an event.
- If you park at a bicycle rack or parking space for more than 3 weeks without moving.
- If you park in an obstructive or dangerous way.
